Free high-speed internet on board
Another great reason to fly with airBaltic! As of 20 February 2025, airBaltic is the first European airline to offer ultra-fast and free SpaceX Starlink internet to passengers on board its Airbus A220-300 aircraft.
The high-speed internet connection lets you join online meetings, catch up with friends or make last-minute travel arrangements while you fly. Never miss the start of ticket sales for a concert or the live stream of a big game due to a flight. Watch movies, play games, shop online or post amazing pictures on social media from above the clouds.
The first airBaltic Airbus A220-300 aircraft are already equipped with Starlink internet, with a phased rollout continuing throughout 2025. Among the first to feature this high-speed connectivity are aircraft adorned with the special Baltic States flag livery. Listen for the in-flight announcement and look at the cover of inflight magazine Baltic Outlook to find out if internet is available on your flight.

Low-Earth orbit satellite internet design by SpaceX
Starlink is a low-Earth orbit satellite internet service designed to deliver the same high-quality, fast connection in the air as on the ground.
Most satellite internet services rely on a single geostationary satellite orbiting the planet at 35,786 km. This results in high round-trip data time (latency) between the user and the satellite, making it difficult to support streaming, online gaming and video calls. Starlink satellites, however, orbit much lower (at approx. 550 km) and cover the entire globe, significantly reducing latency.
The altitude of the aircraft or Starlink user terminal has no impact on internet access or performance. The terminal operates just as effectively on the ground as it does at 35,000 feet. Currently, thousands of Starlink satellites are in orbit. The number of satellites serving a single flight depends on the location, duration and distance travelled.
To check service availability in specific regions, please see Starlink availability map, which provides real-time coverage information and future expansion plans.
The Starlink system has undergone rigorous testing before being certified for use on aircraft. Each component has passed FAA DO-160 environmental tests for temperature and altitude variations, humidity, vibration, shock, electromagnetic compatibility, radio frequency susceptibility, lightning-induced transients, electrostatic discharge and power input conditions.
